Human Specimen
The Human Specimen is a photo-litho printmaking project I completed in the spring of 2012. It includes and edition of five prints, as well as several experimental prints combining photo-lithography, linoleum and woodblock stencil overlays, chine colle, and more. The idea behind the human specimen was to place the human body in a scientific, objective environment, essentially removing the humanity from the identity of the owner of those bodies.
The inspiration for this project came from a fascination with data and institutional methods of scientific categorization of all forms of life on earth, as well as the cold view they provide when dealing with the lives of other humans. It was an exploration of one lens through which the human identity can be viewed.
